Despite what is portrayed in the media, hoarding is no laughing matter. It can pose a serious danger to your loved ones and even to your wallets. When your family member hoards, dangerous materials are piling up such as old food scraps, dirt and even sometimes animals such as rats and roaches get lost in the piles. Unfortunately to hire a professional to clean everything up can be cost prohibitive. It is important to avoid the cost and danger before the damage escalates.
When you see an issue arise it is best not to ignore the issue. Many people ignore their loved one’s hoarding problem if they are able to do most daily activities on their own such as bathing, cleaning and cooking. What people do not realize is that this problem is constantly escalating and the minute your loved one can no longer care for themselves, the hoarding will be a serious danger to their health and well being.
Recognize if there is a problem and address it immediately, help your family clean and make sure they do not start up the bad habits once everything is out of the way.
