Kohl’s has joined a growing list of retailers who are offering adaptive clothing for special-needs children. Locally, Kohl’s now joins Target, which started a clothing line for special-needs children in 2017.
Kohl’s new adaptive apparel was announced earlier this month and includes the retailers three largest private-label kids’ brands, according to a release from the company.
The new apparel provides features that include abdominal access, sensory-friendly and wheelchair-friendly options. Additionally, the new apparel offers flat seams, wider neck and hem lines, longer lengths, abdominal access, two-way zippers, reinforced belt loops and hook and loop closures. The collection also includes clothing that is diaper friendly.
The new line of clothing is designed to make the clothes easier for the user and caregiver to put on and remove. And according to representatives for one of the three lines, the apparel is also designed to look as close to their traditional clothing lines as possible.
As is the case with the special-needs clothing lines for most retailers, the new products are available mostly through the company websites.
According to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics, there were 7 million students in the United States receiving special education services . That accounts for 14 percent of U.S. students. When companies like Kohl’s and Target offer clothing lines especially for special-needs children, it helps them and their caregivers adjust in our society.
